Here are two coaching exercises
designed to sharpen your awareness of what you want in your life and what contribution you want to make in the world.
Send me your answers if you
want to try out a coaching dialogue with me with no commitment on your part.
Exercise#1: What do I want in my life?
The rules:
Set yourself up with pen and
paper or with your word processor.
In this exercise you are visualizing
your ideal life in twenty years time.
Write in the present tense,
as if it is happening now.
Let yourself dream, think big,
and remember we’re playing a game here.
Take the time also to look
back (from twenty years into your future and see the path you took from now to then.)
Here are some questions to
set you off:
How do you see your ideal life in twenty years time?
Where are you living?
Describe your home.
Who is with you?
Who do you spend time with?
What do you do?
What is your money situation?
How is your health?
What do you do for fun?
What are you creating?
Describe a typical day in your
life: When do you wake up? Etc.
If you wish to
dialogue with me about this exercise please use the block provided below.
Exercise #2: What is my contribution?
First Stage:
The first question is: What can
I have to give to the world around me?
I suggest you answer this question
without too much thinking. Begin by writing sentences beginning with:
I give …….
I can give ……….
I love giving ………
I enjoy giving …………….
I am good at giving …………
It’s important to me that I give …………………….
I want to give ………………….
You can write about giving
things, support, smiles, food, information, advice, security, a lift, blood. The alternatives are endless. Be specific, for
example: Which things? A lift to where? What kind of advice? Under what circumstances?
Let the answers flow and write
them as they come into your mind.
There will be plenty of time
to edit afterwards.
If you want to
dialogue with me about this section then please write to me in the block provided below.
Second Stage:
After a break – look
at the following questions and answer whichever ones trigger a response. The purpose of this section is to expand your awareness
of giving in your life.
You may find yourself giving
the same answer for a number of the questions. You can use “copy/paste”.
You need not answer all the
questions.
Here they are. Have fun:
What can I always give, no matter what the circumstances?
What is it that, if I give it will most inspire me?
What am I passionate about giving?
What is it that, when I give it fills me up?
What do I have to give, that if I don’t give it my life will be incomplete?
What is it that I can give in a unique way?
What is it that only I have to give?
What do I have to give, that if I don’t give it the universe will be a poorer place?
What is the most valuable thing I have to give?
Who are the beneficiaries of what I have to give?
Who can best benefit from what I have to give?
Who is it that will be poorer for the lack of what I have to give them?
Who is it that cannot do without what I have to give?
What do I want to give to my children, my spouse, my parents, my colleagues, my clients, my siblings?
Please feel free to comment here too, in the block
below.
Third Stage:
Interview some of the people
in your environment. Ask them how they experience you. What do they say about what you give, about what you bring into their
lives? Note their replies and compare their impressions with your own.
